The 5th tournament of the 3rd season provided an insight of how players will fare in the absence of the top Nigerian players. Network disruption plagued the Nigerian 🇳🇬 & Kyrgyz 🇰🇬 players, preventing them from participating. It proved to be an intriguing tournament. 2 additional players from 2 countries: Nigeria 🇳🇬 & UK 🇬🇧 participated in this edition taking the total tally to 50 players from 15 countries so far.
The tournament was won by to roberisco 🇬🇭 with a 6.5 score. abilohre 🇬🇭 placed 2nd with 5.5 points, losing a game to josty 🇬🇭 & drawing with roberisco 🇬🇭. josty 🇬🇭 placed 3rd also with 5.0 points, losing games to roberisco 🇬🇭 & issahfuseinji 🇬🇭. issahfuseinji 🇬🇭 & e17 🇰🇿 placed 4th and 5th respectively.
Well done to them & everyone else who participated, especially the female players bme 🇺🇬, vou1 🇬🇧, anyvil 🇺🇬, & junior player eldani45 🇨🇴. In this edition the top 3 positions were occupied in a clean sweep by players from Ghana 🇬🇭, well done to them 👏👏👏.
The winning streak has been broken, though through a network issue / absence for the Oga Ota of Nigeria 🇳🇬 mrjohnson. Nevertheless he remains in the lead with 4 wins out of 5 and 27.5 points. The question still remains, will the other grandmaster players manage to win a weekly championship with the Oga Ota participating? The overall difference between top four players has stretched to 2.0 & 6.0 points respectively. The prediction that this season’s league promising to be an even closer run race is certainly on course to be so. We will have to wait to see how things develop.
Will there be new grandmaster players joining the league to add more dynamism to it. Time will tell, as the players from Antigua & Barbuda 🇦🇬, Barbados 🇧🇧, Burkina Faso 🇧🇫, Cape Verde 🇨🇻, Gambia, Guinea 🇬🇳, Guinea Bissau 🇬🇼 Ivory Coast 🇨🇮, Mali 🇲🇱, Niger 🇳🇪, Sierra Leone 🇸🇱, Saint Lucia 🇱🇨, Togo 🇹🇬 are yet to enter the fray. Players from 18 countries that participated in last years league are yet to participate in this edition of the league. Do well to recruit other players to participate in the upcoming practice tournaments in preparation for the championships to come.
Please take note, the top positioned players who are International or Full members of The Oware Society before the league ends, will be awarded cash prizes. Therefore If you place in the top 3, and wish to be considered for a cash award, join The Oware Society before the league ends. The top placed, International or Full members in the female, junior & continental categories will be awarded cash prizes so long as they are Full or International members and enough funds are raised. If enough funds are raised we will consider awarding prizes for country winners, so long as the country is represented by 5 or more players, is not in the top three or a continental champion.
